It has been a really cold week in Wisconsin (most of the week we had temperatures below zero!!) but I have a warm heart!  The reason for my warm heart is that my school will be celebrating our first Red Out Week starting on Monday.  A Red Out is a new program to raise awareness and funds for the American Heart Association.  In November I started planning our Red Out event and set a goal of selling 300 Red Out t-shirts (which will raise $3,000 for the American Heart Association). This was a huge goal for our school but I was confident that we could do it.  I teach with two really great p.e. teachers and one of them (male teacher) volunteered to wear a red dress if we reached our goal.  Well last week we surpassed our goal of 300!  The entire teaching staff at our school has participated in raising awareness of heart health in their classrooms!  Last Thursday we had a flash mob with everyone wearing their Red Out t-shirts and dancing together.  This week we have a lot of activities planned - researching heart helathy foods and heart healthy activities and the big activity on Thursday - the Red Out Pep Rally and the Red Out high school basketball game.  I am so excited to spend the week talking about heart health with my students and staff members.  The Red Out has been such an exciting experience in so many ways and I can't wait to share with you next week all of the news from the week.  I would love to hear from all of the readers of this blog what your school has done to promote heart health.  I can't wait to hear what other schools have done!  Let's start sharing ideas!
